Scientific Name: Botia almorhae

The Yoyo Loach is an active and entertaining freshwater loach known for its distinctive dark markings over a light golden-silver body. Juveniles display characteristic patterns resembling the letters “Y” and “O,” which give this popular species its common name. Their curious personality, constant activity, and unique appearance make them an excellent choice for larger freshwater community aquariums.

Yoyo Loaches are highly social fish that establish complex hierarchies within their group and should be kept with at least 5–6 of their own kind. They spend much of their time exploring the bottom of the aquarium, searching for food, investigating caves and crevices, and interacting with one another. Although generally peaceful, they are active and boisterous fish and may not be suitable companions for very slow-moving or long-finned species.

Recommended Setup: A mature, well-filtered aquarium with clean, highly oxygenated water, moderate water movement, a soft sand or fine smooth-gravel substrate, driftwood, smooth rocks, caves, shaded hiding areas, and plenty of open space for exploration. Yoyo Loaches should be kept in groups of at least 5–6 and offered a varied diet of quality sinking foods supplemented with frozen or live foods and vegetable matter. A tight-fitting lid is strongly recommended, as these loaches are capable of jumping.
