Product Information
Scientific Name: Oryzias latipes “Youkihi”
The Youkihi Medaka Ricefish is a selectively bred Japanese Ricefish variety prized for its vibrant orange to reddish-orange coloration. Its bright color, small size, and active surface-oriented behavior make it an attractive choice for planted aquariums, patio tubs, and appropriately maintained outdoor ponds.
Youkihi Medaka are peaceful, hardy, and social fish that do best when maintained in groups. Unlike many tropical aquarium species, Medaka tolerate a broad range of temperatures and generally do not require tropical-level heat. They are adaptable fish that can thrive indoors or outdoors when provided with stable water conditions, adequate oxygenation, and protection from extreme temperatures and predators.

Please Note: Youkihi Medaka naturally vary in size, sex, coloration, and overall appearance. Orange and reddish coloration can vary in intensity between individual fish and may continue developing with maturity and appropriate conditions. Male and female fish are selected at random, and a specific sex or ratio cannot be guaranteed. The fish you receive may not look exactly like the individual pictured.
All livestock from Felipe’s Fish is carefully selected and prepared for safe transport. Please review our shipping and Live Arrival Guarantee policies before ordering.
The broad temperature range isn't a typo. Medaka are genuinely much more temperature-tolerant than typical tropical fish; care references report ranges roughly from the upper 40s/50s into the low 80s depending on conditions.
