Product Information
Scientific Name: Crossocheilus oblongus
The Siamese Algae Eater is an active, hardworking freshwater fish well known for grazing on algae throughout the aquarium. With its streamlined body and distinctive dark horizontal stripe, this species is an excellent choice for larger planted tanks and peaceful community aquariums.
Siamese Algae Eaters spend much of their time exploring rocks, driftwood, plants, and other surfaces in search of algae and biofilm. They are particularly valued by aquarists for their ability to graze on several types of nuisance algae, including black beard algae. As they mature, their diet should be supplemented with quality sinking foods, algae wafers, and vegetable-based foods.
