Product Information

Scientific Name: Sahyadria denisonii
Common Names: Roseline Shark, Denison Barb, Red-Line Torpedo Barb

The Roseline Shark, also known as the Denison Barb, is a striking freshwater schooling fish recognized for its torpedo-shaped body, bold black lateral stripe, brilliant red markings, and yellow-and-black tail pattern. Its combination of vivid coloration and constant activity makes it an impressive choice for larger freshwater community and planted aquariums.

Despite the name “Roseline Shark,” this species is not actually a shark. It is a barb belonging to the cyprinid family and is native to the Western Ghats of India.

Roseline Sharks are highly active, social fish and should be kept in groups. A properly sized school not only creates a more impressive display but also allows these fish to exhibit more natural social behavior.

Care Level: Moderate
Temperament: Peaceful / Active
Adult Size: Approximately 5–6 inches
Minimum Tank Size: 55 gallons
Temperature: Approximately 65–79°F
pH: Approximately 6.5–7.8
Diet: Omnivore
Recommended Group Size: 6 or more

Recommended Setup: Roseline Sharks require a well-filtered, oxygen-rich aquarium with plenty of horizontal swimming space. Moderate to strong water movement is beneficial, along with plants, rocks, driftwood, and open areas where the school can swim freely.

Feed a varied diet of high-quality flakes, pellets, and appropriately sized prepared foods supplemented with frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp and daphnia. Some vegetable-based foods can also be incorporated into their diet.

Behavior & Tankmates: Roseline Sharks are generally peaceful but extremely active. They work best with similarly sized peaceful community fish that are comfortable with their energetic swimming behavior. Their eventual adult size and activity level should be considered when choosing both tank size and tankmates.

Please Note: Size, coloration, pattern intensity, and sex naturally vary between individual fish. Their characteristic red coloration may become more pronounced as they mature and settle into a healthy aquarium environment.

Available Quantities: Individual fish and discounted group options are available. Because Roseline Sharks are social schooling fish, we recommend keeping them in a group of 6 or more whenever aquarium size allows.
