Product Information
Scientific Name: Neocaridina davidi
Common Name: Red Rili Shrimp
Red Rili Shrimp are a selectively bred Neocaridina davidi variety recognized by their distinctive red-and-clear two-tone pattern. Typical individuals display solid red coloration on the head and tail with a transparent or translucent section through the middle of the body. The exact pattern varies naturally between individual shrimp.
Red Rilis have essentially the same care requirements as Red Cherry Shrimp. They're hardy, peaceful, relatively adaptable, and a good choice for both beginner shrimp keepers and established planted aquariums. They spend much of the day grazing on biofilm, soft algae, microorganisms, and decomposing organic material.
Care Level: Easy
Temperament: Peaceful
Adult Size: Approximately 1–1.2 inches
Minimum Tank Size: 5 gallons; 10+ gallons recommended for a colony
Temperature: 65–78°F
pH: 6.5–8.0
GH: 4–10 dGH
KH: 1–8 dKH
TDS: Approximately 100–180 ppm
Diet: Omnivore / Biofilm and Algae Grazer
Recommended Group Size: 6–10+ shrimp
Breeding: Breeds readily and completely in freshwater.
Recommended Setup: A mature, fully cycled aquarium with live plants, mosses, driftwood, leaf litter, and established biofilm is ideal. Sponge filtration or a protected filter intake is recommended, particularly when breeding, because newly hatched shrimplets are extremely small.
Unlike our Caridina varieties, Red Rili Shrimp generally do not require active buffering substrate or RO/DI water. Stable, appropriately mineralized tap water can work very well when it falls within a suitable range. Avoid rapid parameter changes and ensure ammonia and nitrite remain at zero.
Red Rili Shrimp naturally graze throughout the aquarium. Supplement their diet with quality shrimp foods, algae-based foods, leaf litter, and occasional protein-rich foods while feeding conservatively.
Please Note: The Rili pattern naturally varies between individuals. Some shrimp may have a large transparent center with sharply defined red ends, while others may display more or less red coverage. Higher-quality Rili patterns generally show stronger separation between the colored and transparent portions.
Important: Red Rili Shrimp can interbreed with other Neocaridina davidi color strains. To maintain a consistent Red Rili colony and pattern, keep them separately from other Neocaridina varieties.
