The Grade A Purple Parrot is a selectively bred hybrid cichlid prized for its distinctive coloration, rounded body shape, and characteristic parrot-like face. These juvenile fish are approximately 2.5 inches when sold and can develop stronger coloration as they mature. Their unusual appearance and interactive personality make them an eye-catching centerpiece fish for larger freshwater aquariums.

Purple Parrots are active, intelligent cichlids that often become highly responsive to their keepers. While generally less aggressive than many similarly sized Central American cichlids, they can still become territorial as they mature. Their eventual adult size and substantial bioload make adequate swimming space, strong filtration, and appropriately sized tank mates important for long-term care.

Recommended Setup: A mature, well-filtered aquarium with plenty of open swimming space and caves, driftwood, rocks, or other smooth structures that provide territories and hiding areas. Strong filtration and regular maintenance are recommended due to their eventual size and waste production. Feed a varied diet centered around quality cichlid pellets supplemented with frozen foods and occasional vegetable-based foods. Choose appropriately sized tank mates and avoid very small fish that may be intimidated or viewed as food.
