Orange Shrimp

Orange Shrimp are a selectively bred Neocaridina davidi variety known for their bright orange coloration. Their warm color contrasts especially well against green plants, mosses, driftwood, and dark substrates, making them an eye-catching choice for planted aquariums and dedicated shrimp colonies.

Like other Neocaridina, Orange Shrimp are hardy, peaceful, and beginner-friendly when kept in a fully cycled and stable aquarium. They spend much of the day grazing on biofilm, soft algae, microorganisms, and organic material and readily reproduce in freshwater under suitable conditions.

Recommended Setup: A mature, fully cycled aquarium with live plants, mosses, driftwood, leaf litter, and established biofilm is ideal. An inert substrate works well, and darker substrates can make their orange coloration stand out particularly well. Sponge filtration or a protected filter intake is recommended for breeding colonies because newly hatched shrimplets are extremely small.

Unlike the Caridina shrimp we just finished adding, Orange Neocaridina do not normally require active buffering substrate or specialized soft acidic water. Stable, appropriately mineralized tap water can work very well. Stability is more important than continually adjusting pH, GH, KH, or TDS to chase an exact number.

Orange Shrimp naturally graze throughout the aquarium and should have access to established biofilm. Their diet can be supplemented with quality shrimp foods, algae-based foods, leaf litter, and occasional blanched vegetables. Feed conservatively to maintain excellent water quality.

Please Note: Individual Orange Shrimp can naturally vary in shade, opacity, pattern coverage, size, and sex. Aqua Huna customer reports also indicate some variation from orange to more golden/yellowish coloration. Males and females are selected randomly.

Important: Orange Shrimp can interbreed with other Neocaridina davidi color varieties. If maintaining a consistent orange breeding line is important, keep them separately from Red Cherry, Blue Velvet, Yellow, Rili, and other Neocaridina varieties.
