The OB Peacock Cichlid is a striking captive-bred African cichlid known for its unpredictable combination of blue, orange, red, black, and white blotching. “OB” stands for Orange Blotch, and selective breeding has produced a wide variety of color combinations. Because of this, no two OB Peacocks look exactly alike.

OB Peacocks are generally less aggressive than many Mbuna, but they are still territorial African cichlids, especially as males mature. They do best in spacious Lake Malawi-style aquariums with other Peacocks and appropriately selected African cichlids of similar size and temperament.

Recommended Setup: Provide a sand substrate, rockwork and caves for territories, visual barriers, and plenty of open swimming space. Strong filtration and stable, hard, alkaline water are recommended. OB Peacocks are generally best paired with other Peacocks and compatible Haps rather than extremely aggressive Mbuna.

Feed a quality African cichlid pellet as the staple food, supplemented with appropriate frozen or prepared foods. Unlike algae-grazing Mbuna, Peacock ancestry is adapted to feeding heavily on small invertebrates found around and beneath the substrate.
