The Mayan Butterfly Koi is a striking ornamental pond fish known for its bold coloration, distinctive patterning, and long, flowing fins. Its extended fins create the graceful appearance associated with Butterfly or Longfin Koi, while each individual develops its own unique combination and distribution of colors and markings.

At approximately 4–5 inches when sold, these are juvenile koi with considerable growth and development ahead of them. Mayan Butterfly Koi are active, social fish that can become highly interactive with their keepers and may learn to approach during feeding. Although relatively small when purchased, they require a spacious, properly filtered pond for long-term care.

Recommended Setup: A mature outdoor pond with strong biological and mechanical filtration, excellent oxygenation, adequate depth, and plenty of open swimming space. Koi produce substantial waste as they grow, making excellent water quality and regular maintenance essential. Feed a quality koi pellet appropriate for the season and water temperature, supplemented with suitable vegetable-based foods and occasional treats. Smooth pond structures are recommended to help protect the extended fins of Butterfly Koi from damage.
