Product Information

Scientific Name: Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps

The Leopard Sailfin Pleco is a striking freshwater catfish known for its beautiful leopard-like pattern, impressive sail-shaped dorsal fin, and hardy nature. As it matures, this species develops into a large and impressive centerpiece bottom-dweller with a bold prehistoric appearance.

Leopard Sailfin Plecos spend much of their time exploring the bottom of the aquarium and grazing across driftwood, rocks, glass, and other surfaces for algae and biofilm. While they can help with algae control, they should be provided with a varied diet that includes quality algae wafers, sinking foods, vegetable-based foods, and occasional protein-rich foods.

Care Level: Easy–Moderate
Temperament: Generally Peaceful
Adult Size: Approximately 15–18 inches
Minimum Tank Size: 100+ gallons
Temperature: 73–82°F
pH: 6.5–7.8
Diet: Omnivore / Algae & Biofilm Grazer

Recommended Setup: A large, well-filtered aquarium with plenty of bottom space, driftwood, rocks, and secure hiding areas. Because of their eventual size and waste production, strong filtration and regular aquarium maintenance are essential.

Important: Leopard Sailfin Plecos grow much larger than Bushy Nose/Bristlenose Plecos. Please ensure you have an appropriately sized aquarium for the fish's adult size before purchasing.

Please Note: Live fish naturally vary in size, coloration, pattern, and appearance. The fish you receive may not look exactly like the individual pictured.
