The Julii Cory is a peaceful South American freshwater catfish recognized for its intricate black-and-white pattern of spots, reticulated markings, and darker horizontal striping. It is frequently sold in the aquarium trade as a “Julii Cory,” although the fish commonly supplied under that name is Corydoras trilineatus rather than the true Corydoras julii. Aqua Huna identifies the fish it sells as C. trilineatus, so that is the species used for this listing.

This species is native to South America, including the central Amazon basin, Peruvian Amazon, and other regional drainages. It is a peaceful bottom-dwelling catfish that does best when kept socially with others of its own kind.

Recommended Setup: Provide a mature, well-filtered aquarium with a fine sand or other smooth substrate, along with plants, driftwood, rocks, and shaded hiding areas. Smooth substrate is preferred because Corydoras spend much of their time actively foraging along the bottom with sensitive barbels around the mouth.

Julii Corys are social fish and should be kept in a group. FishBase notes group maintenance for the species, while LiveAquaria specifically recommends a school of six or more.

Feed a varied diet of quality sinking pellets or wafers supplemented with frozen or live foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia. Corys should not be treated solely as cleanup fish and need regular, intentional feeding of their own.

Tankmates: An excellent choice for peaceful community aquariums with compatible tetras, rasboras, dwarf cichlids, other peaceful Corydoras, and similarly sized non-aggressive fish.
