Product Information

Scientific Name: Puntigrus tetrazona
Common Names: Green Tiger Barb, Moss Green Tiger Barb

The Green Tiger Barb is a striking color variety of the classic Tiger Barb, known for its deep metallic green-to-blue body coloration, dark iridescent sheen, and bright orange-red fins. Its unusual coloration combined with the energetic personality of a Tiger Barb makes it an eye-catching addition to active freshwater aquariums.

Green Tiger Barbs are the same species as standard Tiger Barbs and share the same general care requirements and social behavior. They are highly active schooling fish and should be maintained in groups rather than individually.

Care Level: Easy
Temperament: Active / Semi-Aggressive
Adult Size: Approximately 2.5–3 inches
Minimum Tank Size: 20 gallons
Temperature: Approximately 68–79°F
pH: Approximately 6.0–8.0
Diet: Omnivore
Recommended Group Size: 6 or more

Recommended Setup: Provide a well-filtered aquarium with plenty of horizontal swimming space along with plants, driftwood, rocks, and other structure. Green Tiger Barbs are energetic swimmers and appreciate open areas where the school can move freely.

Feed a varied diet of high-quality flakes, pellets, and other appropriately sized prepared foods supplemented with frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. Foods containing vegetable matter can also be included as part of a balanced diet.

Behavior & Tankmates: Like standard Tiger Barbs, Green Tiger Barbs can be fin-nippers, particularly when kept in inadequate numbers. Keeping a proper group helps distribute their social interactions among the school. Avoid slow-moving or long-finned tankmates such as Bettas, fancy guppies, and long-finned angelfish.

They are better suited to active community aquariums containing similarly sized fish that can comfortably handle their energetic behavior.

Please Note: Green coloration, iridescence, size, pattern, and sex naturally vary between individual fish. Depending on lighting and viewing angle, their coloration may appear dark green, blue-green, or nearly black. The fish you receive may differ slightly from the individual pictured.

Available Quantities: Individual fish and discounted group options are available. Because Green Tiger Barbs are social schooling fish, we recommend keeping them in a group of at least 6.
