Product Information

Scientific Name: Andinoacara rivulatus

The Green Terror is a large, striking South American cichlid known for its metallic blue-green coloration and bright orange or white edging along the fins. Mature males can become especially impressive, developing elongated fins and a prominent forehead hump as they age. The species originates from coastal river drainages of western Ecuador and northern Peru.

Despite their impressive appearance, Green Terrors are not community cichlids. They become large, territorial fish and aggression can increase significantly as they mature or form breeding pairs. They are best suited for experienced aquarists who can provide substantial aquarium space and carefully selected tankmates.

Care Level: Moderate–Advanced
Temperament: Aggressive / Territorial
Purchase Size: Approximately 1–2 inches — Juvenile
Adult Size: Up to approximately 10–12 inches
Minimum Tank Size: 80+ gallons recommended
Temperature: 68–75°F
pH: 6.5–8.0
Hardness: 5–25 dGH
Diet: Omnivore
Origin: Ecuador & Peru, South America

Recommended Setup: Provide a large aquarium with a soft sand substrate, driftwood, rocks, caves, and substantial visual barriers. Green Terrors are active diggers, so rooted plants may be disturbed. Strong biological filtration and consistent maintenance are particularly important because this species is sensitive to deteriorating water quality.

Feed a varied diet based around quality cichlid pellets or sticks supplemented with frozen or live foods such as shrimp, mussels, worms, and other appropriately sized foods. Vegetable matter should also be included periodically. Avoid mammalian meats such as beefheart as a regular food.

Please Note: You are purchasing a juvenile Green Terror approximately 1–2 inches in size. Juveniles will not display the full metallic green-blue coloration, bright fin edging, extended fins, or forehead development seen in mature adults. Coloration and body development will increase significantly with age. Unless specifically stated otherwise, juveniles are sold unsexed.
