Product Information

Scientific Name: Paracheirodon simulans

The Green Neon Tetra is a small freshwater schooling fish known for its brilliant blue-green iridescent stripe that extends along nearly the entire body. Smaller and more delicate than the common Neon Tetra, this species creates an impressive shimmering display when maintained in a proper school, especially in planted or blackwater-style aquariums with subdued lighting.

Green Neon Tetras are extremely peaceful and should be maintained in groups where they feel secure and display their natural schooling behavior. They naturally prefer warm, soft, acidic water and are more sensitive to unstable conditions than many common community tetras. A mature, established aquarium with consistent water parameters is strongly recommended.

Care Level: Moderate
Temperament: Peaceful / Schooling
Adult Size: Approximately 0.8–1 inch
Minimum Tank Size: 10 gallons recommended
Temperature: 75–82°F
pH: 4.5–6.5 preferred
Diet: Omnivore / Micropredator
Recommended Group Size: 8–10 or more

Recommended Setup: A mature, well-established aquarium with soft, acidic water, gentle filtration, and plenty of plant cover. Dark substrate, driftwood, leaf litter, floating plants, and subdued lighting can help recreate their natural environment while making their iridescent coloration stand out. Keep Green Neon Tetras with other small, peaceful species and avoid large or aggressive tank mates. Feed appropriately sized foods such as quality micro pellets, finely crushed flakes, baby brine shrimp, cyclops, and other small frozen or live foods.

Please Note: Green Neon Tetras naturally vary in size, sex, coloration, and overall appearance. Newly transported or stressed fish may initially display reduced coloration and can develop stronger blue-green iridescence after becoming established. Male and female fish are selected at random, and a specific sex or ratio cannot be guaranteed. The fish you receive may not look exactly like the individual pictured.

All livestock from Felipe’s Fish is carefully selected and prepared for safe transport. Please review our shipping and Live Arrival Guarantee policies before ordering.

The parameters here are intentionally more specialized than what we'll eventually use for regular Neons. Reliable care references put P. simulans around 0.8–1 inch, recommend groups of at least 8–10, and emphasize warm, very soft, acidic conditions.
