Product Information

Scientific Name: Neocaridina davidi
Common Name: Green Jade Shrimp

Green Jade Shrimp are a selectively bred Neocaridina davidi variety known for their distinctive green coloration. Shades can range from lighter olive green to deep jade and dark forest green, making them one of the more unusual color varieties available within the Neocaridina family. Aqua Huna notes that its current batch displays particularly dark coloration.

Like other Neocaridina, Green Jade Shrimp are peaceful, hardy, and relatively easy to maintain. They spend much of the day grazing on biofilm, soft algae, microorganisms, and organic material, making them an excellent addition to planted aquariums and dedicated shrimp colonies.

Care Level: Easy
Temperament: Peaceful
Adult Size: Approximately 1–1.5 inches
Minimum Tank Size: 5 gallons; 10+ gallons recommended for a colony
Temperature: 65–78°F
pH: 6.5–7.8
GH: 6–12 dGH
KH: 2–8 dKH
TDS: Approximately 150–300 ppm
Diet: Omnivore / Biofilm and Algae Grazer
Recommended Group Size: 6–10+ shrimp
Breeding: Breeds readily and completely in freshwater.

Recommended Setup: A mature, fully cycled aquarium with live plants, mosses, driftwood, leaf litter, and plenty of established biofilm is ideal. Sponge filtration or a protected filter intake is recommended, particularly for breeding colonies where tiny shrimplets may be present.

Green Jade Shrimp do not require the specialized soft, acidic conditions used for most Caridina. An inert substrate and stable, appropriately mineralized water work well. RO/DI water can be used when remineralized appropriately, but it is not a requirement if suitable stable tap water is available.

Green Jade Shrimp spend much of their day grazing naturally throughout the aquarium. Supplement their diet with quality shrimp foods, algae-based foods, leaf litter, and occasional protein-rich foods while avoiding overfeeding.

Please Note: Green Jade Shrimp naturally display considerable variation in coloration. Individuals may range from lighter green and olive shades to extremely dark green. Aqua Huna specifically notes that its current batch is very dark, and customer reviews indicate some individuals can display lighter, wild-type, or otherwise variable coloration. Males and females are selected randomly.

Important: Green Jade Shrimp can interbreed with other Neocaridina davidi color strains. If maintaining a consistent Green Jade breeding line is important, keep them separately from Red Cherry, Blue Velvet, Orange, Yellow, Rili, and other Neocaridina varieties.
