Scientific Name: Mikrogeophagus ramirezi — Gold variety
The Gold Ram is a selectively bred color variety of the popular Ram Cichlid. Instead of the stronger blue and black patterning associated with the German Blue Ram, Gold Rams develop a bright yellow-to-golden body with warm orange coloration around the head and fins, often accompanied by subtle iridescent blue highlights.
Despite their small size and generally peaceful temperament, Gold Rams require more specialized care than many beginner community fish. They thrive in warm, clean, stable water and should be kept in an established, biologically mature aquarium rather than a newly cycled setup. The gold strain is one of several ornamental forms of Mikrogeophagus ramirezi.

Origin: Captive-bred color variety; parent species originates from the Orinoco drainage of Venezuela and Colombia.
Recommended Setup: Gold Rams do best over a soft sand substrate with driftwood, plants, caves, shaded areas, and flat stones that may be used as spawning sites. Water movement should remain relatively gentle. Stable water quality is particularly important, and Rams should not be introduced into immature aquariums.
Offer a varied diet of appropriately sized sinking pellets or granules supplemented with frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. Rams naturally forage near the substrate and will sift sand while searching for small food items.
