Product Information

Scientific Name: Pomacea bridgesii
Common Name: Gold Mystery Snail / Golden Mystery Snail

Gold Mystery Snails are colorful freshwater snails known for their bright golden-yellow shells, peaceful temperament, and active personality. Unlike smaller algae-focused snails, Mystery Snails are larger, highly visible aquarium inhabitants that spend their time exploring glass, substrate, plants, driftwood, and decorations.

They are peaceful scavengers that consume leftover foods, biofilm, some algae, and decaying organic matter. They generally leave healthy aquarium plants alone, making them an excellent choice for planted and peaceful community aquariums.

Care Level: Easy
Temperament: Peaceful
Adult Size: Approximately 2–3 inches
Minimum Tank Size: 10 gallons recommended
Temperature: 68–82°F
pH: 7.0–8.4
GH: 8–18 dGH
KH: 4–12 dKH
Diet: Omnivore / Scavenger
Recommended Quantity: 1–2 per 10 gallons, depending on filtration and available food.

Recommended Setup: A mature, fully cycled freshwater aquarium with good filtration is ideal. Mystery Snails produce more waste than smaller Nerite snails, so adequate filtration and regular maintenance are important.

Mystery Snails also breathe atmospheric air using a siphon and regularly travel to the surface. A secure aquarium lid with some air space above the waterline is recommended because they can climb above the water and potentially escape an uncovered aquarium. Females also deposit their egg clutches above the waterline.

Shell Health: Gold Mystery Snails do best in mineral-rich, neutral-to-alkaline water. Calcium and sufficient hardness are particularly important for maintaining strong shell growth. Very soft or acidic water can gradually cause shell erosion, pitting, and deterioration.

Diet: Mystery Snails should not be expected to survive solely on aquarium algae. Provide a varied diet that can include sinking algae wafers, quality invertebrate foods, leftover fish foods, and blanched vegetables such as zucchini. Calcium-rich foods can also help support healthy shell development.

Compatibility: Gold Mystery Snails are peaceful and generally compatible with peaceful community fish and freshwater shrimp. Avoid housing them with dedicated snail predators such as Assassin Snails, puffers, and snail-eating loaches.

Please Note: Individual Gold Mystery Snails may naturally vary slightly in shell color, size, and body coloration. Aqua Huna selects males and females randomly and does not guarantee a particular sex.
