Gold Dust Molly

Scientific Name: Poecilia sphenops

The Gold Dust Molly is a colorful selectively bred livebearer known for its striking combination of golden-yellow and black coloration. Each fish develops its own unique balance of gold and dark markings, creating an attractive two-tone appearance that stands out beautifully in planted and peaceful freshwater community aquariums.

Gold Dust Mollies are active, social fish that spend much of their time exploring the middle and upper areas of the aquarium. They are generally peaceful and work well in community aquariums with other species that appreciate similar water conditions. Like other mollies, they are livebearers, meaning males and females kept together can readily reproduce and produce live fry.

Recommended Setup: A mature, well-filtered aquarium with hard, alkaline, mineral-rich water, live plants or other areas of cover, and plenty of open swimming space. Feed a varied diet of quality flakes or pellets with a strong vegetable component, supplemented with algae-based foods and occasional frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp. Mollies should not be maintained long-term in very soft, acidic water.
