Product Information

Scientific Name: Caridina cantonensis
Common Name: Fancy Red Tiger Shrimp

Fancy Red Tiger Shrimp are highly decorative Caridina prized for their intricate red-and-white coloration and tiger-style patterning. Unlike standard Red Tiger shrimp, which typically have a translucent body crossed by red stripes, Fancy Red Tigers have been selectively bred for heavier coloration and more elaborate contrasting patterns.

These shrimp are best suited to established Caridina aquariums with soft, slightly acidic water and stable parameters. Like other specialty Caridina, they are less tolerant of sudden changes in temperature, mineral content, or water quality than common Neocaridina shrimp.

Care Level: Intermediate–Advanced
Temperament: Peaceful
Adult Size: Approximately 1–1.25 inches
Minimum Tank Size: 5 gallons; 10+ gallons preferred for stability
Temperature: 68–75°F
pH: 5.8–6.8
GH: 4–6 dGH
KH: 0–1 dKH
TDS: Approximately 100–160 ppm
Diet: Omnivore / Biofilm Grazer
Recommended Group Size: 6–10+ shrimp
Breeding: Breeds entirely in freshwater under appropriate Caridina conditions.

Recommended Setup: A mature Caridina aquarium with active buffering substrate is recommended. Provide mosses, plants, driftwood, leaf litter, and other surfaces that encourage the development of biofilm. Sponge filtration or a shrimp-safe protected filter intake should be used, especially when breeding.

For greater control over water chemistry, RO/DI water remineralized with an appropriate Caridina GH mineral is recommended. Stability is more important than constantly adjusting the aquarium to chase an exact pH or TDS number.

Fancy Red Tiger Shrimp naturally graze throughout the day on biofilm, algae, microorganisms, and decomposing organic matter. Supplement this with high-quality shrimp foods and occasional protein-rich foods while avoiding overfeeding.

Please Note: Fancy Red Tiger Shrimp naturally vary considerably in red-and-white pattern, color coverage, intensity, size, and sex. The shrimp received will not necessarily have identical markings to the shrimp shown in product photography. Aqua Huna selects males and females randomly and does not guarantee a particular sex ratio.

IMPORTANT: Fancy Red Tiger Shrimp are specialty Caridina and should be maintained in soft, stable, low-KH water rather than standard Neocaridina/Cherry Shrimp conditions.
