Ember Tetra

Scientific Name: Hyphessobrycon amandae

The Ember Tetra is a tiny South American schooling fish known for its brilliant orange-to-red coloration. Reaching less than an inch as an adult, Ember Tetras are especially popular for planted and nano aquariums, where a larger school creates a striking contrast against green plants and darker backgrounds.

Ember Tetras are extremely peaceful and social fish that should be maintained in groups. Their small adult size makes them an excellent choice for appropriately stocked nano communities, but tankmates should also be small and peaceful. A larger school helps them feel secure, encourages natural behavior, and creates a much more impressive display.

Recommended Setup: A mature planted aquarium with gentle filtration, open swimming areas, and plenty of plant cover is ideal. Dark substrate, driftwood, floating plants, and subdued lighting can help bring out their fiery orange-red coloration. Because of their very small mouths, offer appropriately sized foods such as crushed flakes, micro pellets, cyclops, baby brine shrimp, and other small frozen or live foods. Avoid housing them with large or aggressive fish that may intimidate or prey upon them.

Please Note: Ember Tetras naturally vary in size, sex, and coloration. Juveniles and recently transported fish may initially appear pale, with stronger orange-red coloration developing as they mature and become comfortable. Male and female fish are selected at random, and a specific sex or ratio cannot be guaranteed. The fish you receive may not look exactly like the individual pictured.
