Electric Blue Ram

Scientific Name: Mikrogeophagus ramirezi — Electric Blue variety

The Electric Blue Ram is a selectively bred color variety of the popular South American Ram Cichlid. It is prized for its intense metallic electric-blue coloration, compact size, and peaceful personality. Unlike the traditional German Blue Ram, the Electric Blue variety displays blue coloration across nearly the entire body, making it one of the most eye-catching dwarf cichlids available.

Although small and generally peaceful, Electric Blue Rams require more attention to water quality than many typical community fish. They thrive in warm, clean, stable water and should be introduced to a mature, fully cycled aquarium. They may become territorial when breeding but are generally peaceful toward appropriately selected tankmates.

Recommended Setup: Provide a mature aquarium with a soft sand substrate, plants, driftwood, caves, shaded areas, and flat rocks. Electric Blue Rams spend much of their time around the lower and middle portions of the aquarium and appreciate territories with visual barriers. Stable temperature and excellent water quality are especially important for long-term success.

Feed a varied diet of high-quality micro pellets or small sinking granules supplemented with frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. Foods should be appropriately sized for their small mouths, and some food should reach the lower portion of the aquarium where Rams naturally forage.
