Product Information
Scientific Name: Sphaerichthys selatanensis
The Crossband Chocolate Gourami is a rare and distinctive freshwater gourami known for its rich chocolate-brown coloration and contrasting pale vertical bands across the body. Native to the blackwater environments of Borneo, this small species offers a unique appearance and fascinating behavior for experienced aquarists looking to create a specialized, natural-style aquarium.
Crossband Chocolate Gouramis are peaceful, slow-moving fish that thrive in warm, very soft, acidic water. As labyrinth fish, they can breathe atmospheric air from the water's surface in addition to using their gills. They are sensitive to unstable water conditions and can be shy or easily outcompeted for food, making them best suited to mature blackwater aquariums with gentle filtration, subdued lighting, abundant cover, and carefully selected tank mates.
