Product Information

Scientific Name: Neocaridina davidi
Common Name: Blue Rili Shrimp

Blue Rili Shrimp are a selectively bred Neocaridina davidi variety known for their distinctive blue-and-transparent Rili pattern. Typical individuals display rich blue coloration across portions of the head and tail with a translucent or lighter-colored section through the middle of the body. The exact distribution and intensity of the blue coloration naturally varies between individual shrimp.

Like other Neocaridina varieties, Blue Rili Shrimp are hardy, peaceful, and beginner-friendly. They spend much of their day grazing on biofilm, soft algae, microorganisms, and leftover organic material and can reproduce readily once established in a mature, stable aquarium.

Care Level: Easy
Temperament: Peaceful
Adult Size: Approximately 1–1.25 inches
Minimum Tank Size: 5 gallons; 10+ gallons recommended for a colony
Temperature: 65–78°F
pH: 6.5–8.0
GH: 4–8 dGH
KH: 3–8 dKH
TDS: Approximately 150–200 ppm
Diet: Omnivore / Biofilm and Algae Grazer
Recommended Group Size: 6–10+ shrimp
Breeding: Breeds readily and completely in freshwater.

Recommended Setup: Keep Blue Rili Shrimp in a mature, fully cycled aquarium containing live plants, mosses, driftwood, leaf litter, and plenty of established biofilm. Sponge filtration is ideal for breeding colonies because it provides gentle filtration while protecting tiny shrimplets from being pulled into the filter.

Blue Rilis do not require the active buffering substrate and soft acidic conditions associated with specialty Caridina shrimp. Stable, appropriately mineralized water is more important. Suitable tap water can work very well, and an inert substrate is perfectly acceptable.

Their natural grazing can be supplemented with quality shrimp foods, algae-based foods, blanched vegetables, and occasional protein-rich foods. Feed conservatively to avoid degrading water quality.

Please Note: The Blue Rili pattern naturally varies between individual shrimp. The amount, location, opacity, and intensity of blue coloration will differ, and customers should not expect every shrimp to have an identical pattern. Aqua Huna selects males and females randomly and does not guarantee a particular sex ratio.

Important: Blue Rili Shrimp can interbreed with other Neocaridina davidi color strains. To maintain a consistent Blue Rili line, keep them separately from Red Cherry, Blue Velvet, Orange, Yellow, Green Jade, Red Rili, and other Neocaridina varieties.
