Blue Neon Peacock Cichlid

Scientific Name: Aulonocara sp. “Blue Neon”

The Blue Neon Peacock Cichlid is a striking Lake Malawi Peacock known for its brilliant combination of yellow and electric blue. Mature males typically develop a vivid blue face and fins contrasted against a bright yellow-to-gold body, creating one of the most recognizable color combinations among African Peacock Cichlids.

Like other Peacocks, Blue Neons are generally more manageable than highly aggressive Mbuna but remain territorial African cichlids. Males become especially territorial as they mature and display breeding coloration. They are best maintained with compatible Peacocks, Haps, and other Lake Malawi cichlids that will not excessively bully them.

Recommended Setup: Provide a fine sand substrate with rockwork, caves, and visual barriers while maintaining plenty of open swimming and foraging space. Stable, hard, alkaline water and strong filtration are important. Blue Neon Peacocks are generally better suited to compatible Peacocks and Haps than extremely aggressive Mbuna.

Feed a quality African cichlid pellet as the staple diet supplemented with appropriate frozen or prepared foods such as brine shrimp and other small invertebrate-based foods. Peacocks naturally forage over sandy areas for small invertebrates, so they should not be fed as strict herbivores like many Mbuna.

Juveniles and females generally show considerably less coloration than mature dominant males. Unless specifically stated otherwise, sex and exact coloration are not guaranteed.
