The Black/Midnight Medaka Ricefish is a selectively bred Japanese Ricefish variety prized for its deep gray to black coloration and subtle reflective sheen. Its dark appearance creates excellent contrast against green plants, lighter substrates, and outdoor pond or patio-tub environments, making it one of the most distinctive Medaka varieties.
Black Medaka are peaceful, hardy, and social fish that do best when maintained in groups. They are active swimmers that spend much of their time around the middle and upper areas of the water. Unlike many tropical aquarium fish, Medaka tolerate cooler temperatures and can be maintained in planted aquariums, patio tubs, and appropriately maintained outdoor ponds.

Recommended Setup: A mature, well-filtered aquarium, patio tub, or appropriately maintained outdoor pond with gentle water movement and plenty of surface swimming space. Live plants and floating vegetation provide cover and can encourage natural behavior and spawning. Feed a varied diet of quality small pellets or flakes supplemented with appropriately sized frozen and live foods such as baby brine shrimp, daphnia, and other small invertebrates.
