Product Information
Scientific Name: Pangio oblonga
The Black Kuhli Loach, also known as the Java Loach, is a peaceful freshwater bottom-dweller known for its long, eel-like body and distinctive solid dark brown to nearly black coloration. Unlike the familiar banded Kuhli Loach, this species has a more uniform appearance that stands out beautifully against light sand, plants, and natural aquarium décor.
Black Kuhli Loaches are social fish that are most comfortable when kept in groups of at least 5–6. They spend much of their time exploring the substrate, weaving through plants and driftwood, burrowing into soft sand, and gathering together in sheltered areas. They are generally peaceful toward both their own species and other fish, making them an excellent bottom-dwelling addition to established community aquariums.

Keep Black Kuhli Loaches in groups of at least 5–6 and provide quality sinking foods supplemented with small live or frozen foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia. A secure lid and protected filter intakes are strongly recommended, as these slender loaches can squeeze through small openings and may jump.
