Product Information
Scientific Name: Caridina cantonensis
Common Name: Black Galaxy Shrimp / Black Galaxy Pinto Shrimp
Black Galaxy Shrimp are premium Caridina prized for their dramatic black-and-white coloration and distinctive spotted “galaxy” patterning. Their markings can include white facial spots, broken patterns, bands, and varying amounts of white coverage against a deep black base. Because Aqua Huna sells these specifically as a Black Galaxy Shrimp Mix, individual patterns and coloration should be expected to vary considerably.
Black Galaxy Shrimp are more demanding than common Neocaridina shrimp and are best suited to established Caridina aquariums. They thrive in soft, acidic water with extremely low KH, and stability is especially important for successful molting and breeding. Specialty Galaxy Pinto care recommendations center around approximately pH 5.8–6.6, GH 4–6, KH 0–1 and TDS 90–150 ppm.

Breeding: Breeds entirely in freshwater when maintained under stable Caridina conditions.
Recommended Setup: A mature Caridina-specific aquarium with active buffering substrate is strongly recommended. Provide mosses, plants, driftwood, leaf litter, and plenty of surfaces for natural biofilm growth. Sponge filtration or a shrimp-safe protected filter intake should be used to protect both adults and shrimplets.
RO/DI water remineralized with a Caridina GH+ mineral is strongly recommended for maintaining predictable GH, KH and TDS. Black Galaxy shrimp are sensitive livestock, so consistent parameters are more important than repeatedly adjusting the aquarium to chase exact numbers.
Black Galaxy Shrimp spend much of their time grazing on biofilm, algae, microorganisms, and naturally occurring organic material. Supplement their natural grazing with quality shrimp foods and occasional protein-rich foods while feeding conservatively.
Please Note: Aqua Huna sells this product as a Black Galaxy Shrimp Mix. Individual shrimp can vary significantly in black-and-white pattern, spotting, white coverage, color intensity, size, and sex. Customers should not expect every shrimp to look identical to the product photographs. Males and females are selected randomly.
IMPORTANT: Black Galaxy Shrimp are specialty Caridina and should not be kept using standard Cherry/Neocaridina parameters. A mature, soft-water, low-KH Caridina setup is strongly recommended.
