Scientific Name: Cyprinus carpio
Assorted Imported Koi are colorful ornamental pond fish selected from a variety of patterns and color combinations. Individual fish may display combinations of white, orange, red, yellow, black, metallic, or other markings, making each koi unique. At approximately 3 inches when sold, these juveniles provide an excellent opportunity to watch their coloration, patterns, and body shape develop as they mature.
Koi are active, social pond fish that can become remarkably interactive with their keepers and may eventually learn to approach people during feeding. Although these fish are small when purchased, koi grow into very large, long-lived animals and require a properly sized outdoor pond with excellent filtration for long-term care.

Recommended Setup: A mature outdoor pond with strong biological and mechanical filtration, excellent oxygenation, adequate depth, and plenty of open swimming space. Koi produce substantial waste as they grow, so maintaining excellent water quality is essential. Feed a quality koi pellet appropriate for the season and water temperature, supplemented with suitable vegetable-based foods and occasional treats. Koi are social and can be maintained together when adequate pond volume and filtration are provided.
