Assorted African Peacock Cichlid

Assorted African Peacock Cichlids are colorful Lake Malawi cichlids selected from a mixture of Peacock varieties. Depending on the assortment, individual fish may display combinations of brilliant blue, orange, red, yellow, purple, and metallic coloration. Because these fish are sold as an assortment, the exact variety and coloration received will vary.

Peacock Cichlids are among the most popular African cichlids because of their exceptional coloration and generally more manageable temperament compared with many Mbuna. They are still territorial cichlids, particularly as males mature, and should be maintained in a properly sized Lake Malawi aquarium with compatible tankmates. Most Aulonocara mature around 4–6 inches.

Recommended Setup: Provide a sand substrate with rockwork, caves, visual barriers, and plenty of open swimming space. Strong filtration and stable, hard, alkaline water are important. Peacock Cichlids generally work best with other appropriately selected Peacocks and compatible Lake Malawi cichlids of similar temperament. Very aggressive Mbuna can overwhelm the generally less aggressive Peacocks.

Feed a high-quality African cichlid pellet as the staple diet with appropriately selected supplemental foods. Peacocks naturally feed on small invertebrates detected in the substrate and are not primarily algae-grazing Mbuna.
