The Black Skirt Tetra is a hardy, active schooling fish known for its flowing black fins and contrasting silver body. Its bold appearance and constant movement make it a great choice for building a lively, balanced aquarium.
When kept in groups, Black Skirt Tetras create a strong schooling effect, adding motion and structure to the mid-level of your tank. They are easy to care for and highly adaptable, making them a reliable option for both beginners and experienced aquarists.
This species does best in groups of 6 or more, which helps reduce stress and minimize fin nipping. While generally peaceful, they can be semi-aggressive, so they are best kept with active, similarly sized fish such as danios, rasboras, barbs, and other tetras. Avoid slow-moving or long-finned fish.
They thrive in a well-planted aquarium with open swimming space, where their natural behavior and coloration stand out.
